Meet Our Scientists: Twaha Bukenya

Twaha Bukenya is the Global Head of Central Services within our Statistical Programming and Analysis (SPA) group. The SPA group is responsible for summarizing data related to treatments currently in clinical studies and preparing these data and summaries for submission to regulatory agencies. Twaha works to expedite this process, ideally to help reduce the time to file new drug applications and get therapies to the patients who need them, faster.

In this blog post you will learn about Twaha’s career journey at Pfizer (past, present, and future) and the positive direction we are headed in as a company!

Then and Now

Twaha had worked at Pfizer from 1999 to 2007, working all the way up to Director of Statistical Analysis and Reporting, which he credits to Pfizer’s commitment to developing our managers. He came back to the same organization in 2019 as a Senior Director of Statistical Programming and Analysis, Global Head Central Services. When he saw the posting of this position, he took the opportunity to return to both the team and the career development opportunities he had known at Pfizer.

Think about your accomplishments at Pfizer. What are you most proud of?

Twaha: “I like the Bold Moves concept, as it fits very well with my career aspirations. I enjoy the challenges of clinical research, and my group is challenged with coming up with solutions to position the SPA group as a leader in the industry. We are in the process of implementing several efficiencies and new technologies that will catapult SPA to the top in the coming years. So far, I have managed to reduce our vendor budget, improve the quality of our electronic submissions, and implement several process improvements.”

What impresses you most about the people you work with?

Twaha: “I am honored to work with a group of very talented colleagues, who are willing to go the extra mile to ensure that we are on track to realize our vision.”

How do you see your own career developing from here?

Twaha: “I take every job as an opportunity to learn and develop into a better leader. I see myself heading a department in the future.”

How will Pfizer impact patients’ lives in the future?

Twaha: “I believe that Pfizer’s impact on patient lives has been very strong over the years. With the research on COVID well underway, Pfizer is positioned to lead the industry in innovative medicines that will help the global community tremendously. The speed at which the COVID vaccine is progressing will provide the industry in general, and Pfizer in particular, a new way of developing medicines.”
